Ministry of Labor and KOICA Join Forces to Elevate TVET in Cambodia

Phnom Penh, March 14, 2024: The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MoLVT) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) have reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in Cambodia. This collaborative effort aims to empower Cambodian youth with the essential skills needed to excel in the evolving job market landscape.

The dedication to this cause was prominently highlighted during a productive meeting on March 12, where MoLVT Minister Heng Sour and Choi Moon Jung, the Country Director of the KOICA Cambodia Office, convened at the ministry's headquarters. The gathering signified a significant stride towards bolstering the quality and accessibility of vocational training across the nation.

Discussions between the minister and the KOICA representative revolved around crafting strategies to further equip Cambodia's youth with forward-looking skills. This initiative seamlessly aligns with Cambodia’s strategic objective of nurturing a highly skilled workforce to propel sustainable national development.

Minister Heng Sour expressed heartfelt gratitude for South Korea's steadfast support, notably commending the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia as a beacon of success in the realm of TVET schools. The institute stands as a testament to the effective fusion of top-tier vocational education with hands-on skills development.

Looking towards the horizon, the minister shed light on the impending launch of a groundbreaking project titled “Building Capacity and Establishing Enabling Environment in ICT Majors of TVET in Cambodia 2023-2027,” supported by KOICA. This transformative initiative is poised to substantially expand the network of premier TVET institutions in Cambodia, with a specific focus on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) majors. The project heralds a new era of vocational training in Cambodia, equipping students with the competencies required to thrive in the contemporary job market landscape.
